Whats Causing The iPhone 4S Battery Issue?
Although it has been less then a month since the iPhone 4S started shipping but already there is a pile of complaints about the performance of the battery, it has been said to die down from just 2-3 hours of internet use or 30-40 minutes of calls, whereas it was promised that it will give 8 hours of talk time and up to 6 hours of Internet use on 3g, along with 200hours of standby time, so in fact iPhone 4S’s battery is giving only 20-30% of what it is actually supposed to give.
There have been thousands of posts in the Apple discussion forums for the said issue as well as thousands of different theories, but i think even Apple doesn’t know what the problem is yet and they are taking some time to figure it out.
Some users have said that their battery died within 4-5 hours even in standby mode in which all the battery draining features like Siri and location services completely deactivated. Some users solved the problem by just draining the battery and recharging it, but no final solution has come out yet.
The Guardian recently reported that a bug in iOS 5 regarding Location Based Services could be the culprit. Specifically the ‘Setting Time Zone’ function which appears to keep the location tracking hardware running at all time, hence draining the battery. Turning this feature off improved the battery life quite a bit in some cases the only draw back is that your phone wont change the time zone automatically know when you are traveling.(Gizmodo)
